A Walk in the Woods was founded by Erik and Vesna after a life-changing thru-hike of the Great Smoky Mountains in 1996. Inspired by the beauty and connection they found in the mountains, they set out to help others experience the Smokies in a deeper, more meaningful way.
Since 1998, A Walk in the Woods has guided more than half a million guests into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Along the way, it has become one of the most respected guide services in the country.
What sets A Walk in the Woods apart is its belief that the Smokies are meant to be experienced, not simply seen. Guides—including retired park rangers, educators, biologists, naturalists, and longtime Smokies experts—lead immersive experiences far beyond the crowded overlooks and busy trails.
